hi there

Hannah Morgan Teachout has long found solace in stories. Moving around the world as a child and an adult, she still doesn’t have a good answer to the question “where are you from?” After working in a variety of fields, she found a calling in publishing. Hannah has interned with the children’s literature department at Tobias Literary Agency and now works as an assistant at Folio Literary Management. A graduate of the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults, she loves a good adventure, on and off the page.

Currently, you can find Hannah in Atlanta, teaching workshops and working author events through two local bookstores, devouring flaky pastries at the closest bakery, and braving the sweltering sunshine to walk her dog.

am I the right editor for your story?

Not every editor is the right fit for every story. In order to best serve you and your story, I ask you consider if my set of interests and qualifications is a match.

I find joy in middle grade, young adult, and adult fiction. Spanning most genres, I have a particular affinity for speculative, horror, fantasy, and contemporary with (or without) a suspenseful or romantic bent. I love working on structure, pacing, emotion, character, and other big-picture edits. Specific manuscripts I have experience editing include middle grade, young adult, and adult fantasies (and romantasy), contemporary romcoms for teens and adults, as well as thrillers and horror in the adult and crossover space.

While working for literary agencies, I honed my reading skills to get to the heart of the story and refine character and narrative arcs to resonate with industry professionals. I’ve taught query letter writing workshops for MFA programs and writing conferences.

My goal is to help you tell your best story, not dictate the story I want it to be. If any of this sounds right, or if you have questions, I’d love to hear from you.

-Emily Thiede, author of This Vicious Grace and This Cursed Light

“Hannah brings a deep understanding of character development and story structure to her editorial work, but just as important as her knowledge of craft, she also knows how to ask the right questions and provide the support writers need to create the best possible version of the story they want to tell.”

-Sara, middle grade and picture book writer

“I am so grateful to have Hannah in my writing corner. Whenever I turn to her, she is full of amazing ideas and creative solutions. When she pulls out her marker and turns to her white board, we begin to brainstorm plot and character and now my stories are more tightly woven and better crafted.”
